Rape Crisis & Sexual Assault Services

volunteer vICTIM advocate training

Training for Rape Crisis Victim Advocate Volunteers is held six times per year. The comprehensive training prepares volunteers to respond to crisis calls, emergency room advocacy, and court advocacy.  The 22-hour training includes presentations from the district attorney's office, The Health Department, the Richmond and Columbia county sheriff's office, as well as our own Crisis Specialists.

sexual assault awareness month

The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.

By working together and pooling our resources during the month of April, we can highlight sexual violence as a major public health, human rights and social justice issue and reinforce the need for prevention efforts.

Locally, Rape Crisis presents Sexual Assault Awareness Month through partnerships with Augusta University.

Take back the day 5k

Take Back the Day 5K Run/Walk to Prevent Sexual Violence and Child Abuse is Rape Crisis' primary fundraiser.  As Augusta's fastest 5k course (all downhill!), the race is a great way for runners to get a PR.  Non-runners may also participate by walking the course.

8th Annual Take Back the Day 5K will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017

Runners:  $25 Pre-registered, $30 Day-of, $20 Military (with valid ID at check-in)

In order to celebrate the triumphs of survivors of sexual assault and to increase the community’s awareness of sexual victimization, each year Rape Crisis presents the annual Take Back the Night Rally to conclude Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Take Back the Night was created to help survivors know that they are not alone, to speak out against sexual violence, and raise community awareness against future violence. The rally also offers an opportunity for the community to state it will not tolerate these crimes or let them go silently into the night. Survivors of violence, supporters of survivors, and community advocates wishing to eliminate violence from our communities gather to hear testimonies from survivors of sexual assault, hear from community leaders, participate in a candlelight march to "Take Back the Night".
